If you own an American made pickup with a turbo diesel engine, and you want to upgrade its performance and power level, you will need Premium American Made Fasteners from ARP to keep it together.

When the power output of a high compression diesel engine is increased with performance upgrades such as aftermarket turbos, injectors or performance diesel engine tuners the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) head bolts will stretch and fail. When the OEM head bolts stretch you will have to endure the costly, time-consuming job of replacing your head gaskets. ARP has eliminated this costly repair of replacing blown head gaskets by producing the highest quality and strongest high-strength head studs, which have several design advantages over the OEM-specification head studs, including:

  • More accurate torque readings
  • All clamping forces are on one axis
  • Easier engine assembly
  • Manufactured to exacting tolerances
  • Black Oxide finish for increased durability

As a result, more accurate torque readings are possible because these ARP diesel performance head studs don’t twist into the block. All clamping forces are on one axis, creating less force exerted on the block threads, which contributes to improved block life (a very important issue on aluminum blocks). Finally, the proper alignment of caps allows for easier engine assembly each time.

8740 CHROME MOLY: Until the development of today's modern alloys, chrome moly was popularly considered a high strength material. Now viewed as only moderate strength, 8740 chrome moly is seen as a good tough steel, with adequate fatigue properties for most racing applications, but only if the threads are rolled after heat-treatment, as is the standard ARP production practice. Typically, chrome moly is classified as a quench and temper steel, that can be heat-treated to deliver tensile strengths between 180,000 and 210,000 psi.

ARP2000®: ARP2000 is an alloy steel that can be safely heat treated to a higher level, producing a greater strength material than 8740. While 8740 and ARP2000 share similar characteristics – ARP2000 is capable of achieving a clamp load at 220,000 psi. ARP2000 is used widely in short track and drag racing as an up-grade from 8740 chrome moly in both steel and aluminum rods. Stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement are typically not a problem, providing care is taken during installation.

ARP Custom Age 625 also offers complete resistance to atmospheric corrosion and oxidation. ARP was the the first to develop manufacturing and testing processes for fasteners manufactured with Custom Age 625+. One of the best features of the Custom Age 625 is that it is a less expensive super alloy and is the material of choice in the 260,000 to 280,000 psi tensile strength range.
